  2. Monologues. Same subject, but different perspectives and background?

Frage von Jack Package: Monologues. Same subject, but different perspectives and background?
I’ve been suffering from a severe case of writers block. I need to write two monologues about the same subject, but the two have different perspectives on it and different backgrounds. Any ideas of what the monologues should be about?

    Answer by N
    Hallo, “Blocked One”!

You seem to have the meaning right but may be thinking too hard about the means of describing it.

Essentially, your monologues are a to be a pair of essays that, in this case, are required to explain a possibly ironic view about the chosen subject or more often, an aspect of life with a strongly humourus theme, if it is to be performed to an audience.

As to a subject, has anything about the news, for instance, politics maybe, your life, that caught your imagination. Maybe a hobby, a sport, an interest, a film or play, comparison of income between politicians and ordinary folk. Pitch each one from the opposite views and give ironic words in their statements.

I’m a great believer in the Mind Map as an aid to constructing answers in times of blockage. In fact I don’t wait for the blockage to set in but get straight to it. I subscribe to a view that sugggests setting spinning thoughts down on paper unloads the “blockage”!

    Start
    Settings
    System
    Screen
    Text Size
allows you to change text size but there is no color option.
I don’t think you’ll like it though because it changes things like the Today screen and screws it up as far as I’m concerned.
    Hope that helps.

  6. Q&A: What monologues would be good to read to audition for this role?

    2011/10/bbcdb_Monologues_2247376294_2b606ef948

Frage von vicki*: What monologues would be good to read to audition for this role?
I’m planning to audition for the part of Anne in The Diary of Anne Frank. Does anyone have any monologue recommendations for what I should read? Can I read an excerpt from the play or is that bad? Thanks for the help!

    Beste Antwort:

    Answer by Meg
i recommend definitely NOT doing an excerpt from the play. but here are few that i think might work:

    LES MISERABLES (FANTINE)
“Six months! Six months in prison! Six months, to earn seven sous a day! But what will become of Cosette! My daughter! My daughter! Why, I still owe more then a hundred francs to the Thenardiers, Monsieur Inspector, did you know that?”
“Monsieur Javert, I beg your pity. I assure you I was not in the wrong. If you had seen the beginning, you would have seen. I swear to you by the good God that I was not in the wrong. That gentlemen, whom I did not know, threw snow in my back. Have they the right to throw snow in our backs when we are going along quietly like that without doing any harm to anybody? That made me wild. I am not very well, you see! And then he had already been saying things to me for some time. ‘You are homely!’ ‘You have no hair, no teeth!’ I know this too well. I did not do anything; I thought; ‘He is a gentleman who is amusing himself.’ I was not immodest with him, I did not even speak to him. It was then that he threw the snow at me. Monsieur Javert, my good Monsieur Inspector! Was there no one there who saw it who could tell you this is true! I perhaps did wrong to get angry. You know, at the first moment, we cannot master ourselves. We are excitable. And then, to have something so cold thrown in your back when you are not expecting it. I did wrong to spoil the gentleman’s hat. Why has he gone away? I would ask his pardon. Oh! I would beg his pardon. Have pity on me now this once, Monsieur Javert. Stop, you don’t know how it is, in the prisons they only earn seven sous; that is not the fault of the government, but they earn seven sous, and just think I have a hundred francs to pay, or else they will turn away my little one. O my God! I cannot have her with me. What I do is so vile! O my Cosette, O my little angel of the good blessed Virgin, what will she become, poor famished child! I tell you the Thenardiers, they have no consideration. They must have money. Do not put me in prison! Do you see, she is a little one that they will put on a highway, to do what she can; in the very heart of winter, you must have pity for such a thing, good Monsieur Inspector. If she were older, she could earn her living, but she cannot at such an age. I am not a bad woman at heart. It is not laziness and appetite that has brought me to this! When I was happier, one would only need to take a look into my wardrobe to see that I was not a disorderly woman. I had linen, much linen. Have pity on me, Monsieur Javert.”
    “Mercy!”

This one is written by Alyssa Frost, its called “A Broken Family, A Broken Heart”

I don’t think my wounds will ever heal. (Looks up) I have plenty of them. On the outside, AND the inside. I never really knew her, yet I loved her. My mother never loved me back, though. I adored my father too. Unlike my mother, he was always around. It seemed like he always had time for me. Mother was always away, burying herself in work or out with some guy. My father knew about these strange men, but loved my mother far too much to do anything about it.

Sometimes Mother brought them over when she knows Father won’t be home. She must have had hundreds of them. I knew she was unfaithful, and yet, I could not help but admire her. Her beautiful golden curls were soft and silky to touch. Her face perfectly symmetrical. She was forever confident, forever decisive. I wish I were more like her. (Tears roll down Tara’s cheeks) But now, all I have left to admire are her old photographs, all with a different guy in them. I think Father is going crazy. He can’t stand the thought of life without her. He says he’s going to commit suicide. I know he won’t go without me, though. I understand how he feels. It was so horrible.

That man was so scary, with his tattoos and piercings. I think Mother was secretly afraid of him. If you had seen him, you would’ve been terrified too. He always beat her, always shouted at her. He threatened to kill her if she ever dared leave him. I always hid in my room when that man came over. He didn’t know about me and Father. Mother didn’t tell him. She never tells any of them. That day, she brought him home and he saw us, Father and I. (Dramatic Pause) He used our chopper.

(Eyes flaring, angry and defensive, fists balled, jaw clenched) (Hisses) You think Mother is an idiot. You think Father should have left her ages ago. (Screams madly) I just KNEW it! Everyone says that! None of you get it! She was the greatest mother in the world! And the most beautiful by far! You’re all just jealous! (Tara’s voice suddenly drops to a whisper) You’re all just jealous…

    I really hope I helped!

Frage von mixeddudetx: What are some monologues to use when addressing an audience, crowd, etc?
I am going to give a monologue on April 17th and since I will have 8-10 directors(classmates I know) looking at my performance, I was wondering what is a good monologue to use? For example, a sermon monologue. If it’s not a good idea to include address or include the directors as a character then what would be a good monologue choice?

“Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!” Marc Antony, Shakespeare’s “Julius Ceasar”.

well ,you probably want do this one, but, in school house rock there are a bunch of songs that a guy sings and also talks to the audience(in a way), so you might check that out. Also, there is tom and another guy who are main characters in that, but they are talking in conversations(dialouge not monolouge). GOOD LUCK!
